I had some spare time today, so I decided to look into extracting the Dragon Age: Origins & Awakening music files from the game data archives, and here's the guide I came up with:

    • Download FSB Extractor by Aezay
    • Extract the rar archive into an empty folder and run the program
    • Press Ctrl+O to access the open file function
    • Open Dragon Age\packages\core\audio\sound\music_bank_strm_new.fsb
    • For the song "I Am the One", open Dragon Age\packages\core\audio\sound\music_notstream_sting.fsb
    • For the Awakening music files, open Dragon Age\packages\core_ep1\audio\sound\music_bank_strm_new.fsb
    • Select the songs you want to extract and press F5 to do so
    • You should now have the music files in wav format in a folder called "Dumps" in your FSB Extractor folder

Depending on whether you prefer wav or not, you may want to convert the music files into some other format. There's some really great stuff in there, and you definitely don't need to buy the soundtrack.

Awesome! Thanks for the info! Not to ambush your own topic or anything but I have a related music question of my own...and I am wondering if you might be able to answer it...In Lothering the battle music there in my opinion is some of the best battle music in the game if not the best...but sadly as we all know lothering is the only place that music is played! Is there anyway to somehow get that battle music to play elsewhere like some of the places that are lacking good battle music?

It's possible to set tracks to play at certain locations by using scripts, that's how I believe it was originally done anyway. Perhaps Qwinn would know the specifics. You should send him a personal message (unless you're reading this, Qwinn).

I just noticed that apart from the original Leliana's Song (vocals by Aubrey Ashburn) there's also an instrumental version included with the game. An interesting find for me, and I suppose for anyone who cares about this particular song.

          • The original song is called "da_m_elf_song"
          • The instrumental version is called "da_liliana_novoice"

I have to say though, whoever was responsible for naming the audio files, wasn't really up to the task. The music tracks are on occasion pretty hard to figure out, but I suppose BioWare had some sort of list with "translations" for the track names. Too bad it's not included in the game.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking to be perfectly honest. Guide: Extract DA Music Files - Dragon Age Series (23) Is the music in the game files? Why, yes.

Also be aware that McAfee will tag FSBExtractor as a trojan. I put in a bug report almost a year ago and got an acknowledgement but it still does it.
