A Message to Peoria County Taxpayers from Nicole Bjerke, Peoria County Treasurer
Several options are available for you to consider when paying your Peoria County property taxes. Please choose a method of payment that will be convenient for you and will give you the best assurance that your payment will arrive on time and have a proper U.S. Postal Service postmark (if you choose to mail your payment). We ask that you plan the timing of your payment so that you will be assured it gets to us on or before the due date. The 2023 property tax due dates are June 4th and September 4th.
We accept cash, personal checks, cashier's checks, and money orders in person or by mail. There is also an option to pay online(available after May 1st) or by phone at 855-394-0671 using Apple Pay, Debit/Credit Cards, Electronic Check, Google Pay, PayPal, and Venmo. Please note that the phone option only allows Debit/Credit Cards or Electronic Checks. Do not send cash if you are paying by mail. If paying by check, do not postdate any check. If your check is returned by the bank for any reason, you will be charged a $25.00 returned check fee. When paying by money order, we urge you to obtain and keep a paid receipt for the taxes you paid. If, for some reason, you might have to provide future proof of payment of taxes, it is usually impossible to obtain the original of any money order that has been cashed. Depending on your form of payment (cash, check, etc.), please choose one of the following methods to make that payment, so that it is timely and avoids late payment penalties as required by law! Only cash, certified/cashier check, money order or electronic payments will be accepted after October 14, 2024.

Pay in Person
Pay in person at our office in the Peoria County Courthouse.
No worry about the payment being on time but you may have to stand in line if waiting until the due date to pay. If you choose this option, it's best to come to our office a few days ahead of the due date. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Pay by mailing your check to us
If you mail your payment, please mail early and use the mailing address as it appears on your tax statement. Also, be sure to put the correct amount of postage on the envelope - including extra postage for oversized and/or heavy envelopes. We cannot accept mail that has postage due. Mailed payments must have a Postal Service postmark on or before the due date to avoid a late-penalty. Do not assume the post office will put the current day postmark on your envelope if dropped off at a mail receptacle after the posted pickup time. A postage meter imprint will not be accepted as proof of timely payment.
Pay in person at a participating bank
Some banks in Peoria County will accept your payment. If paying at a bank, your tax bill payment stub must be present with the payment, banks will not accept it without the tax bill nor do they accept any type of partial payment. In general, these banks may accept your payments only during their regular business hours from about May 1st through the second installment due date (September 4th, 2024).
See the list of participating banks.
