Black Friday 2024 predictions

Here are some shopping trends we expect to see during Black Friday 2024. You’re sure to like what you see; whether you plan to shop for the Black Friday sales online or you want to snag the in-store Black Friday deals.

1. Black Friday sales continue to start early in the season

The "Black Friday creep" that we've witnessed over the past few years isn’t going anywhere. We saw several major retailers, like Amazon, Target and Walmart, host major sales in early October, and we anticipate a lot of them will start hosting pre-Black Friday sales at the start of November.

In November, it will be interesting to see what date retailers decide to launch their "official" Black Friday sales. Black Friday takes place at the end of the month this year – almost a week later than last year. Most retailers like to stick to the traditional timeline and kick off their Black Friday offers a few days before Turkey Day. However, others might bring out their Black Friday prices even earlier.

2. More mobile and app Black Friday shopping

Retailers have been working hard to improve their online mobile shopping experiences, and it looks to be paying off. Each year, the number of sales placed on mobile devices during Cyber Week (the time between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday) seems to grow.

According to Adobe Analytics Insights, 59% of online sales in 2023 came through smartphone (compared to 55% in 2022). Because this area of shopping is growing, we are starting to see retailers offer more exclusive discounts for shoppers who use their apps. It’s a new type of Black Friday online shopping!

3. Retail memberships take center stage for the holidays

More Black Friday shopping perks have become available to those with retailer memberships over the past few years.

Last year, we saw Amazon, Best Buy and Walmart provide shoppers who had paid memberships with exclusive access to certain Black Friday offers. While Target also offered exclusive access to some Black Friday deals through its free rewards program (Target Circle).

Based on these trends from last year, we think some stores will be making a portion of their sales on Black Friday only available to those with membership to their programs. This means you might want to sign up for programs like Amazon Prime and Walmart+ before the holidays. And, if you've considered joining Target Circle 360 (the new paid memembership program), we have a feeling there will be special perks available to you as well.

4. Buy now, pay later programs are more popular

We predicted that buy now, pay later programs would increase in popularity during Black Friday last year – and they did. According to Adobe Analytics Insights, buy now, pay later spending rose 42.5% year over year. We expect this trend to continue into the Black Friday shopping season in 2024.

What will retailers do for Black Friday 2024?

So, where are the best Black Friday deals this year? While nearly all stores host sales on Black Friday, the best bargains tend to appear at the most popular retailers. Here’s a look at some of our predictions about what retailers will discount on Black Friday (based on what we saw last year).

Amazon

This year, Amazon's Black Friday sale starts on Nov. 21. Be on the lookout for major discounts on Amazon devices, popular tech gadgets (like headphones and speakers), toys, beauty products and more. Amazon always has standout savings on its digital services like Audible and Prime Video.

Best Buy

Best Buy's Black Friday sale runs from Nov. 21 to Nov. 30. During this time you can find deals on TVs, video games, headphones, speakers and more from all your favorite tech brands.

Kohl’s

This year, Kohl's Black Friday sale runs from Nov. 24 to Nov. 29. During the sale you can earn $15 in Kohl's Cash for every $50 spent. Plus, Kohl's is offering shoppers doorbusters online on Thanksgiving Day and in-store on Black Friday.

JCPenney

JCPenney is another department store that will start its Black Friday sale several days before Thanksgiving. The sale runs from Nov. 22 to Dec. 1. The JCPenney Black Friday ad scan showcases deals on apparel, home goods, jewelry, toys and beauty products.

Home Depot

The Home Depot likes to offer savings to shoppers throughout the month of November. This year, the sale runs from Nov. 7 all the way through to Nov. 28. You can find deals on holiday decor, appliances, tools and more.

Macy’s

Macy’s hosted an impressive Black Friday sale with discounts on designer apparel, jewelry, fragrances, beauty products and home goods. The Macy’s Black Friday ad scan revealed that the sale started several days before Black Friday itself, so don’t be surprised to see something like this for Black Friday 2024.

Target

Looking back at the Target Black Friday ad scan revealed that the retailer ran its Black Friday deals for an entire week. What were these bargains? Everything from video game consoles and TVs to KitchenAid stand mixers and Christmas decorations. We expect to see similar deals and a familiar sale format this year.

Walmart

The Walmart Black Friday 2024 sale is divided into three shopping events. The first one starts on Nov. 11, the second begins the week of Thanksgiving (Nov. 25) and the third one starts on the Sunday night before Cyber Monday (Dec. 1).

In terms of Black Friday deals, Walmart's Black Friday sale will feature products ranging from TVs, earbuds and Apple Watches to toys and small home appliances.

What Black Friday deals will we see in 2024?

Many people ask, “What are the most popular items to buy on Black Friday?” And it makes sense. The Black Friday special deals are what get everyone excited to shop. We bet you’re already looking forward to this year’s bargains.

While no Black Friday ad scans or deals have been announced at this time, we can make some predictions about Black Friday 2024 based on what we saw last year.

Black Friday Apple product deals

The Apple Store typically isn’t the best place to find Black Friday Apple product deals, and we don’t think this will change in 2024. As in previous years, we predict the best Apple Black Friday deals this year will be available at retailers like Amazon, Target and Walmart.

Apple AirPods and Apple Watches saw their prices drop to some of the lowest of the year, while iPhones were available with credits and extras as bundle deals. Be on the lookout for similar savings this year.

Black Friday TV deals

TVs are one of the first products that people envision when Black Friday comes to mind. Whether it’s an LG TV or a set from Samsung or another brand, Black Friday shoppers can’t get enough of these deals.

The lowest prices were on basic Amazon Fire TVs and sets from brands like TCL and Vizio. However, you could also save hundreds of dollars on fancier TVs from Sony, LG and Samsung. This is a trend that should repeat for Black Friday 2024.

Black Friday toy deals

While many Thanksgiving and Black Friday deals are for grownups, retailers don’t forget about the kiddos. Stores offer plenty of Black Friday toy deals. With the success of the Barbie movie, Barbie toys were very popular and heavily featured in sales. LEGO, Hot Wheels, Paw Patrol and LOL Surprise were also discounted.

We predict that toys from these brands will be featured in Black Friday sales this year. Our team will also keep our eyes open for the hot toys of 2024!

Black Friday Dyson deals

From vacuums to Airwraps, Dyson products are always popular on Black Friday. You could find certain Dyson vacuums for nearly 50% off, Dyson hair dryers for 25% off and the iconic Dyson Airwrap for 40% off last year. Keep your eyes peeled because we think these deals will be back this Black Friday.

Black Friday gaming console deals

With the upcoming release of the PS5 Pro and PS5 30th Anniversary Edition we anticipate the standard PS5 console will be available for less during Black Friday. You are also likely to see deals on Nintendo Switch, Oculus Quest VR headsets and both Xbox Series X and S.

Black Friday KitchenAid deals

Would it be Black Friday without KitchenAid stand mixer deals? We don’t think so, and that’s because retailers always offer great Thanksgiving and Black Friday deals on these kitchen appliances.

Stores like Amazon, Best Buy, Kohl’s and Target all offered discounts on KitchenAid mixers that could save you hundreds of dollars. Some of the promotions even came as bundle deals with extra accessories. You can rest assured that we’ll see more deals like this in 2024.

Black Friday FAQs

Is Black Friday the same date every year?

Yes. Black Friday always happens on the Friday after Thanksgiving, which is always the fourth Thursday in November.

How often is Black Friday each year?

Black Friday only occurs once a year. However, throughout the year, you will have different sales that use the term Black Friday in their tagline. For example, you can shop Black Friday in July sales in the summer.

When is Black Friday 2024?

This year, Black Friday falls on Friday, Nov. 29. Early Black Friday sales, however, will likely kick off as early as October, with many "official" sales starting sometime around Nov. 18 (we predict).

What time do Black Friday sales start?

In recent years, Black Friday sales have been starting earlier, with some starting a week or more before Thanksgiving. Additionally, some stores have been dividing their Black Friday sales into separate events throughout November and feature different start times for in-store and online deals.

How long do Black Friday sales last?

Black Friday sales tend to last through the Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving. However, some of them may run into Cyber Monday.

Black Friday serves up some of the best savings of the entire year for almost every product category, including tech gadgets, toys, apparel and home essentials.
